Assembly District 3 Endorsement – Sutter County Republican Party

Assembly District 3 Endorsement

The Sutter County Republican Party has become aware of recent online allegations that have been critical of our decision to endorse Dom Belza in the race to succeed James Gallagher, who is not running for re-election due to term limits.

To be clear, our organization followed every endorsement requirement set forth in our Bylaws and the Bylaws of the California Republican Party. All three declared GOP candidates were given proper notice of our February endorsement meeting, and each had the opportunity to address our committee before an endorsement decision. However, only Dom Belza chose to attend and address our organization. Ultimately, the decision made by our 25-member Board to endorse Belza was unanimous.

We also agree with the naysayers that every voter should do their own homework. Who you support to be the next person representing us at the State Capitol is an important decision. We also respect every individual that declares their candidacy for public office. In doing so, they make tremendous sacrifices and have their record examined by voters and organizations like ours. We encourage voters, conservative organizations and Central Committees throughout the 3rd Assembly District to research the candidates.

Dom Belza has been very active in helping elect Republican candidates and conservative ballot propositions. For example, he served as an Honorary Co-Chair of the Yes of Prop 36 campaign. He spent countless hours organizing North State signature drives, putting up signs, educating the public and raising tens of thousands of dollars for the Yes on Prop 36 campaign. He has earned support from James Gallagher, Kevin Kiley, PORAC (California’s largest public safety organization) and hundreds of other trusted local leaders. Unlike some Republicans, Belza does not shy away from issues like parental rights, the Second Amendment, and the abuses of power plaguing our state government.

Jamie Johansson’s service to California agriculture is commendable. However, there is concern about his involvement in funding the Democrats who are bankrupting California. It is public knowledge that Johansson served as President of an organization that donated $31,000 to Gavin Newsom’s re-election campaign and thousands of dollars to far-left extremists like Scott Wiener and Reggie Jones-Sawyer. We have also heard many concerns about Johansson’s opposition to federal legislation that would have helped construct the border wall and increase border patrol staffing.

Andrew Coolidge should also be commended for his time and sacrifices serving on the City Council in Chico. However, there are several red flags here as well. It is concerning to see Coolidge implying in campaign ads that our current Assemblymember (James Gallagher) is neglecting the North State and not getting the job done. Additionally, his decisions as Mayor appear to have left the City of Chico completely helpless in their efforts to manage a growing transient population. It is telling that so many prominent Chico leaders are supporting Belza and not their former Mayor.

We trust that you will do your due diligence, decide and support the candidate who will best represent you, and help inform others. There is simply too much at stake!
